Over 200 Ride in 40th Annual Mile High 100 Cycling Event!
Over 200 participants turned out for the Almanor Recreation and Park District’s 40th annual Mile High 100 bike ride on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Cyclists from all over Northern California and Nevada gathered in Chester to ride 33, 68 or 100 miles on a gorgeous day.
The two longest distances featured a new route through Westwood with a fully-stocked rest stop at the Walker Mansion staffed by Rob and Linda Hart and volunteers from the Westwood Chamber of Commerce. All three routes included a rest stop in Chester hosted by Bodfish Bicycles and a rest stop at Canyon Dam staffed by Chelsea Harrison from Farmers Insurance. The ride concluded at the Almanor Recreation Center where riders enjoyed a lunch catered by Cravings and beer provided by Timber House Brewing.
All participants received a black 2023 Mile High T-shirt which featured artwork designed by Carol Montgomery, a local artist and avid cyclist. Carol and her husband Jack also volunteered at the event along with dozens of other volunteers. The Mile High was coordinated by Randy Robbins with assistance from Susan Espana. The ride would not be possible without the efforts of all our volunteers and the generous donations of our sponsors.
This year’s event was sponsored by Chase International Lake Almanor Brokers, Chester Car Wash, Collins Companies, Howard Construction, Knotty Pine Resort, Plumas Bank, Slusher Plumbing, Seneca Healthcare District, Timber House, Coldwell Banker Kehr O'Brien Real Estate, GU Energy and Chamois Butt'r. Many thanks to these businesses for their support!
The Mile High 100 is one of ARPD's largest fundraising events and all proceeds benefit District programs and events, as well as capital improvement projects, with an emphasis on recreation, parks and trails. Thanks to all participants, sponsors and volunteers who helped make this year's event an amazing success!
